RULES

RACE FEES ARE NON-TRANSFERABLE AND NON-REFUNDABLE

Rules:
All established USA Triathlon rules will be in effect including but not limited to the following:

  • For each race, athletes' age groups are determined by their age on December 31st of that year.  This rule is so that you don't change age groups in the middle of the year.
  • Helmets are mandatory while riding the bike (BEFORE, DURING, and AFTER the race).  Helmet must be buckled or strapped on.  This is a DISQUALIFICATION penalty.
  • Headphones are not allowed at any time.
  • Swim caps will be provided and required.
  • DO NOT THROW YOUR SWIM CAP ON THE BEACH!  Leaving swim caps, hammer gel wrappers, water bottles, or anything else on the course will result in a penalty.
  • Drafting on the bike is strictly prohibited.  You must stay 3 bike lengths away from the bike in front of you.  You are allowed 15 seconds to execute a pass.
  • Pass only on the left while on the bike.
  • No blocking - Stay to the right except when passing.
  • No riding on the transition area.
  • No outside assistance allowed in the transition area or anytime during the race.
  • Handlebar ends must be plugged to lessen the chance of injury.  This is a DISQUALIFICATION penalty.  Please ask for a plug from the Mack Cycle Mechanic if you need one.
  • If USAT member, you must show your current USAT card to pick-up packet

For a complete list of USAT rules, please visit their website at http://www.usatriathlon.org.

Series Points System:
The series points system gives the average time for each event 100 points. Your points will be the average time (in seconds) multiplied by 100, then divided by your time (in seconds). If you are faster than the average time, then you will have more than 100 points.  Athletes must participate in 3 out of 4 events in the series to qualify for the series awards, regardless of their points standings.

If you race in more than 1 category during the series, then you are only eligible for awards in the hardest of the categories that you participated in (i.e. Age Group is harder than Clydesdale, Elite is harder than Age Group, etc.).

Once the series awards ceremony has begun, ALL RESULTS ARE FINAL!  No changes will be made after that time for ANY reason.  It is your responsibility to review the results prior to the awards to ensure that all of your points are properly credited to your one and only name.

Duathlon points count towards the South Florida Duathlon Series.  There are no Duathlon Series awards for the Key Biscayne Trilogy.

Packet Pick-Up Rules:
USAT has established registration procedures and they will be strictly enforced at Packet Pick-Up:

  • All participants will be required to bring picture ID to pick up packet and all packets need to be picked up in person.
  • All USAT members will be required to show their current USAT membership card to pick up their packet. If you forget your card you will need to pay the daily membership fee before picking up your packet. If you lost your card, you may print it from USAT's website at www.usatriathlon.org.
